English

After several decades the social consequences of the Iraq-Iran war continue to be neglected and given little consideration in Iran’s policymaking. The present study focuses on documenting the experiences of border indigenous residents explores perceived trauma. Decades later, the trauma of breaking the sound barrier continues to be a recurring theme in women's narratives of their own and their family members' terrifying experiences of war. The question is: what social characteristics does this traumatic situation give to areas with affected populations during development? Methodologically as Qualitative research, using semi-structured interviews and library studies has enabled the collection and analysis of data. Referring to the issues of capability poverty, Amartya Sen showed that the trauma of breaking the sound barrier in the form of mass trauma (in its multiplicity and repetition as well as the geographical extent involved) acted as a factor of deprivation for the victims and threatened their mental health with a continuous experience of panic as well as various physical complications. While health is one of the most important prerequisites for life in terms of developing and effectively building exceptional capabilities, the aforementioned post-traumatic stress disorder has caused victims to suffer from various types of anxiety and stress disorders and has prevented them from participating in social life in a way. Regional development policymaking, taking into account such a social psychological background, should provide opportunities for social participation for the affected.
