English

Amid Iran’s economic crises, inflation-understood as a structural phenomenon-has disrupted not only macroeconomic indicators but also the institution of the family. Twitter, as a reflection of public discourse, offers valuable data on citizens’ lived experiences in confronting inflation. This qualitative study, employing content analysis based on the method of Hsieh and Shannon (2005), coded and analyzed 116 tweets related to inflation using MAXQDA18. Findings indicate that inflation, through the imposition of multilayered economic pressures, highlights two main themes within the structure of Iranian families: "internal disorder and conflict" and "family vulnerabilities." The first theme involves the weakening of foundations such as compatibility, cooperation, shared thinking, and empathy, which leads to heightened tensions and communicative disconnection. The second theme points to livelihood crises, challenges of childbearing, diminished child well-being, and financial insecurity, all of which reduce family resilience. Nevertheless, the findings suggest that Iranian families, by utilizing adaptive strategies such as “intra-family participatory economy” and “minimalist consumption patterns,” strive to redefine the notion of “coexistence” in response to emerging challenges.
