English

This study aimed to examine the status of reflexivity and cultural identity of Lak immigrants living in Namjoo neighborhood of Tehran using the grounded theory. Research data were collected using in-depth interview with 36 participants and analyzed using coding method.16 axial categories and one core category under the title of "differential acculturation" was obtained. The findings showed the scope and depth of reflexivity, belonging and adhering to the dimensions of identity-building cultural identity (traditional and modern) are not the same among immigrants and no equal combination can be observed among individuals of one generation or between two generations. The second generation has more flexibility than the first generation in terms of cultural-ethnic components. Different socialization conditions and the host society’s attitude towards immigrants play an important role in reflecting, redefining and changing identity components. Unlike the community of origin, the host community leaves an important part of identification and acculturation to the individual, which, in addition to individual differences, highlights generational differences in the formation of identity. Thus, a kind of differential acculturation is now observed among Lak immigrants. Due to the fluid nature of identity, other strategic concepts such as cultural integration, marginalization, etc. may apply in the future.
