Abstract
The Islamic Revolution of Iran, with its extensive and active participation of women in all spheres, is considered one of the most unique revolutions in the contemporary world. This presence introduced a new representation of the “Iranian Muslim female identity” that was simultaneously active, aware, and committed to religious and national values. However, comprehensive and multidimensional scientific analyses of this role have not yet been sufficient. The aim of this research is to explain the multidimensional (historical, social, cultural, discursive, and identity) role of women in the formation and victory of the Islamic Revolution and to present a development-oriented model of their participation. The research also identifies class, educational, and spatial differences in women’s participation and its impact on their revolutionary identity. The research method is qualitative and applied-developmental, using directional content analysis and historical discourse analysis. Data were collected through the study of historical documents, memoirs, interviews, and the analysis of media and visual sources (posters, slogans). The findings show that women's participation was not merely field-based, but was also deeply influential in discursive, value, and identity dimensions, and found its legitimacy and motivation by relying on religious beliefs and the culture of Ashura. Also, class and geographical differences in the form and extent of women's participation created different patterns of activism.
