Abstract

The image of the users of tourism services is very influential on its development. This industry has significant effects on the development of cities, regions and countries, that's why the income and sustainable economic development resulting from medical tourism is very important. Therefore, this research was conducted with the aim of presenting a model and explaining the role of factors affecting the image of users of medical tourism services in the sustainable economic development of Khuzestan
This research is practical in terms of purpose. The statistical population of the research in the qualitative part was therapeutic tourism experts, who reached theoretical saturation with 10 people, and in the quantitative part, there were therapeutic tourism tourists and medical staff in Khuzestan, whose number was 384 randomly determined. The collection tool was an interview in the qualitative part and a questionnaire in the quantitative part, the validity of which was checked and confirmed by using the construct validity and its reliability with the help of Cronbach's alpha test.
The results of qualitative data analysis in coding that 91 sub-categories were categorized in the form of 22 main categories or central codes and in the quantitative part causal factors, intervening factors and background conditions have a significant effect on the mental image of users of therapeutic tourism services. Also, strategies in the field of tourism have a significant impact on the consequences of therapeutic tourism. Finally, the results show that the consequences of therapeutic tourism have a significant impact on sustainable economic development.
