Abstract

This research investigated the urban life of Isfahan in two existing and desirable situations based on the perspective of Isfahan citizens. we tried to focus on the socio-cultural context of Isfahan, which has been the protector of its urban life throughout history. The research method was qualitative content analysis. The research participants were 28 citizens of Isfahan who were selected by purposeful sampling. The data collection method was focus group interview. The findings indicated that the urban life of Isfahan isnot suitable in its current state. In the current situation, the three main categories influencing the weakening of the urban life of Isfahan are spatial fragmentation (dehistoricization of the city, structural imbalance, spatial destruction, social rupture and cultural rupture), institutional confusion (behavioral imprudence, management confusion, institutional disharmony, urban depopulation, rent-oriented and corruption, financial instability, capitalization of construction and cultural unplanning) and social confusion (social irresponsibility, identity confusion, behavioral confusion, value confusion). The continuation of these conditions will expose the urban life of Isfahan to a severe weakening. For this purpose, the citizens of Isfahan have presented strategies to improve the existing situation, which include: spatial reproduction (spatial immortality, identity history, biological reproduction and structural balance), institutional cohesion (people-oriented, institutional efficiency, income stability, justice-oriented, rebuilding trust and cultural intervention) and social vitality (identity reconstruction, behavioral reconstruction, value reconstruction and responsibility). cultural and social elements have played a pivotal role in the urban life of Isfahan in the past, and it is necessary to restore and strengthen these elements in the future.
